Beautiful Day & Nothing to do!
Posted on October 13th, 2003 No commentsSaturday night we decided to hit the road earlier Sunday and do some serious geocaching. After the doughshop roundtable (actually, retangular with a dogleg) I raced back home and we departed on the quest that took us near Fort Wayne, on to Ney, OH and then to Montpelier, OH and back.
First stop was St. Joe, IN for the Orange Sherbert cache – a two stager. The first stage we found fairly easily in an Atoids metal box at a location I cannot describe for game reasons. However, the coordinates for the second stage in the box were what we wanted so we drove to the closest point for the second site and walked the last 0.25 miles to a very nice spot on the bend of a river. The trailend was actually our trail head and had a sign showing an old covered bridge on the spot. After finding the cache and signing the log plus trading “things” we proceeded to Hurshtown Reservour for the second of the day. However, the park was closed for the season and all sorts of dired warnings about electronic surveillance convienced us to not trespass – strike one.
Ok, on to Ney, OH. We passed multitudes of Amish carriages on this beautiful day near Grabill, IN. They were out in their finest and on the way to Sunday Church. We arrived in Ney, after a small detour to Kray Orchards (which was terminally closed with apples on the trees), and navigated to the ball field and parked within 475′ of the cache. After a short time we arrived at the site and looked for about 15 minutes to find it. I took a shot of SAM on the way back.
Ok, on our way to the final cache of the day in Montpelier, OH we stopped for fuel just across the street from the famous Lester’s Diner. We found the last cache after a false start on the St. Joe Trail in the town. It was a new one and we were the first to log it.

Second time around!
Posted on October 9th, 2003 No commentsOk, this is the second time for this entry. Man, I forgot to hit save and destroyed my best work in years. Now this pitiful replacement must suffice.
I awoke and went to my faithful Dell Optiplex to check the overnight email. By chance and luck, I called up the Geocache site & when I hit the “My Caches” button lo and behold a NEW cache appeared that was right on our doorstep. How could one resist being first? Check out the pictures for the cache!
With great excitement I ran to SAM, who was still deeply asleep, and proclaimed the intention we be the first! Like the true champion, SAM rubs the sleep from weary eyes and we hit the road! Well, we were the first – and the mosquitoes were out in abundance – this October morning.

The Upper Crust & the Mist
Posted on October 9th, 2003 No commentsTwo days and several promises late: After our walk on Fish Creek Trail this fine fall day of 10/07/03 we decided to visit our favorite Hamilton lunchtime eating place – The Upper Crust. After a lot of hummm’s and deciding, I ordered the Italian Sub and SAM ordered the Bacon Lover’s sandwiches. With the serious business aside, we had a good chat with our favorite lunchtime person – who did not want to be pictured on the web – about working hours and other good stuff.
When I awoke this morning early I saw a beautiful site that has greeted me for a long time without being recorded for posterity. Inspired, I grabbed the cam and snapped the sight that has been my awaking view in good times and bad: I hope you enjoy it like I have. Have the best day of your life!
