Love the RSS employment at the TOP but..
Posted on January 28th, 2004 No commentsOK, I know not what to do? The RSS employment feed at the top is cool but it delays my page loading by several orders of magnitude. I’ll leave it for this week but delete by Sunday unless I get overwhelming resistance.
MyDoom – three emails today with the payload. Three caught by Mcafee 4.0.4319 – WARNING DO NOT RELY ON THE AUTOMATIC UPDATE. I received one email with payload before I manually downloaded the ….19 dat. The automatic update is better than nothing but in this case it is worth nothing.
Be warned everyone that this is a fast spreading virus…Open no email from anyone who you are not expecting email from for that short period of time.

Scary – Real Scary
Posted on January 27th, 2004 No commentsMyDoom – two hits today – nothing unusual EXCEPT MCAFEE DID NOT CATCH IT. You need to get 4.0.4319 update – yesterdays 4318 does not catch it. I received 1 email before the update and it did not alert me. After the update it found the 2nd email and stopped it.
Both emails had the subject line “Test” and had enticing sender names. They are real easy to open if you are not thinking.

What a Saturday!
Posted on January 24th, 2004 No commentsMan, what a beautiful day it was here in St. Petersburg. I washed the truck in the yard with the new brush I purchased at Auto Zone this morning and it made the job easier than the “rag in hand” method. So now my Chevy 1500 is a bright and shiny golden color again.
Back on the RSS feeds, here is another that I look at with my aggreator. Notice it follows the latest additions to the blog, so it is ever changing until it falls off the list in 30 days or so. If I find a feed that I am so captivated with that I just cannot live without it I will put it permanently at the top of this blogline.

Tides & tRAINING
Posted on January 23rd, 2004 No commentsSince I am a budding mariner here is a tide chart – 2004 style. So if I go to Anna Marie/Bradenton Beach I can get the expected tides for the Palmetto/Bradenton area. Cool huh?
I just talked with Ed at West Marine in Palmetto who is the person training me. The tenative schedule is late Wednesday and longer on Saturday. Love it! As a long time single and multi-engine aircraft pilot I am looking forward to the new challenge of sailing. You can bet there will be more on this subject in the future days.

RSS feeds – yes, they are a comin’.
Posted on January 22nd, 2004 No commentsHere is an example of a feed that I visit regularly:
This started as a test and now it has developed into a headline of sorts. I will probably do this thing sort of regularly for “feeds” I feel deserve recognition. Feel free to get an RSS reader like RSSReader
This ends my effort for this evening….BTW – I understand that NT4.0 does not support USB. However, my old Dell WS400 has 2 USB ports and I need to add my DVD and HP “All-In-One” printer. What to do? Through the serial link with a converter? Advise.

Early to rise!
Posted on January 20th, 2004 No commentsAfter a restful weekend and Monday holiday (MLK day) it was early to rise today. That is a whole nother story in Indiana slang. The sailing lesson scheduled for Sunday noon had to be canceled due to TB’s rolling through the area – we received over 1.5″ of rain in a few hours. The alternate day – Monday – was a wash too due to more rain and generally bad weather. Did you ever get the idea I am not supposed to do this?
Be that as it may, I have had a dream since my early 20′s to sail the world. The romance of the idea is good but the reality might be quite a different thing, so enter sailing lessons. I have spent most of my adolescent and adult life on or very near water so the concept of water and power boating is well known and has been practiced. However, rules of the road on really large bodies of water and shallow water+tides navigation deserve attention and specifics to sailing is unknown all together.
Understand the loyal spouse does not even know what is coming! The airplane is replaced by a boat – which is a step downhill because an old boat is worth nothing but an old airplane is worth the value put into it. Couple that with living in rather cramped quarters and no car to run to the store leads to a “whole new way of life”. However, it is romantic and, therefore, has some redeeming value! So maybe I can swing it but then again maybe I cannot?
Anyone care to comment about life aboard a 26′ vessel with no car?

Crazy Daz
Posted on January 17th, 2004 No commentsHey! I have my new charleswmoore web page up and flying on a Abyss Web Server. View the page. This nifty, free web server software was very easy to install and I had the whole thing up an running in 1 hour, including making the page. Ok, ok if you saw the first cut page it was pretty basic and only lasted 2 days before being replaced by the second cut page and this lasted about 3 hours.
Anyone out there that tells me they like the first cut page better that what is there now is in trouble. However, being a free country based on the principles of liberty feel free to make comments via “karma” voting and “comments” which I am enabling for this posting.
The day dawned to mostly sunny skies and temeperatures of 57 degrees – high today is 77 here in St. Petersburg. Last night it was cooler as I went to Sonny’s for my Friday night BBQ – I had chicken & pork w baked potato & coldslaw for $7.99 plus tax and tip (total $10). Now that may seem like a real good price but up North I can eat for less with the same quality. Most of my evening meals are after 1830 hrs so the price is up. Early Bird specials reign here but you must get them before 1700 or the price goes way up now if only they would have the “working man’s early bird special” I would be in like flint.
This leads me to my rant of today – what can a WASP man, much than the middle tier managers of today, in a recession economy with industry ringing the bell of the holy grail “ISO quality for pennies” expect? NOT MUCH rings a bell to me: perhaps it is only depression setting in. BFN….Charlie

Not a real good day today
Posted on January 14th, 2004 No commentsI arrived bright and a few minutes early this morning and met with my team mates to go out to our warehouse. On arrival at the warehouse we picked up some of the materials we need to do the radio main site. Wow, lo and behold the VHF combiner had arrived so we looked at the box and it had two penetrations that looke suspiciously like forklift punctures. I felt in the hole and almost cried – the combiner cans had big dents in them. Oh well, there goes ten grand or more for the insurance company to pay. Actually it is much more than that for the intangible side. It takes 6 weeks to get a new one but the project is to be done in 6 weeks so here goes another time compression event. What about the tower top lighting? The tower is to be stacked and antennas installed in 3 weeks or so and it is not here yet. You get the picture!
On the bright side I am supposed to go sailing this Sunday afternoon and it should be a balm for the soul. Check out Moore Wireless Communications news for the latest on the VPN adventure.
I don’t know if I mentioned it but I have the URL’s charleswmoore.com, .net, .org, and .us. I like the concept of the .us so I got it to support the concept. These are not really active yet but .com leads to this site if you want to try. Have a great evening.
