Early to rise!
Posted on January 20th, 2004 No commentsAfter a restful weekend and Monday holiday (MLK day) it was early to rise today. That is a whole nother story in Indiana slang. The sailing lesson scheduled for Sunday noon had to be canceled due to TB’s rolling through the area – we received over 1.5″ of rain in a few hours. The alternate day – Monday – was a wash too due to more rain and generally bad weather. Did you ever get the idea I am not supposed to do this?
Be that as it may, I have had a dream since my early 20′s to sail the world. The romance of the idea is good but the reality might be quite a different thing, so enter sailing lessons. I have spent most of my adolescent and adult life on or very near water so the concept of water and power boating is well known and has been practiced. However, rules of the road on really large bodies of water and shallow water+tides navigation deserve attention and specifics to sailing is unknown all together.
Understand the loyal spouse does not even know what is coming! The airplane is replaced by a boat – which is a step downhill because an old boat is worth nothing but an old airplane is worth the value put into it. Couple that with living in rather cramped quarters and no car to run to the store leads to a “whole new way of life”. However, it is romantic and, therefore, has some redeeming value! So maybe I can swing it but then again maybe I cannot?
Anyone care to comment about life aboard a 26′ vessel with no car?
