  • Rain Today!

    Posted on February 24th, 2004 admin No comments

    The day dawned brilliantly and the drive over “The Sunshine” was quite relaxing. Crews were just starting to come together as I arrived and we had a good day working as planned. Ending the day at 1700 I started the trek through Palmetto and out the bridge for the return. Where was the sun? Not to the north thats for sure and by the time I hit 22nd North it was raining cats and dogs. My usual trip home increased by about 30 minutes and the side of the streets were running deep.

    Dinner was a quieting event as I listened to the rain patter on the roof. Peace again and as I listen now the rain is hitting the roof in a certain staccato that is soothing to the inner most regions: All is well with my soul as the refrain goes.

  • Beautiful Day

    Man, was it nice here today! I mean weather wise of course. The big push to get the tower up is over but the “little” things remain and consume a lot of time. The engineer arrived today so I have a sounding board and a technical decision maker in residence – this helps a lot. We have three more weeks to put this thing together – one more site, a lot of little details and ATP. Lets RnR.

    ============quote ny times blogline==============

    Globalization is often criticized because of the economic disruptions it creates, the diseases it can spread and the severe gaps in wealth it reveals. But in a new book, David Bornstein offers a different perspective on globalization that is thoroughly uplifting and encouraging.

    In “How to Change the World: Social Entrepreneurs and the Power of New Ideas” (Oxford University Press, $28), Mr. Bornstein shows how new communications tools are allowing activists, whom he calls social entrepreneurs, to bring about change at the grass-roots level.

    ==============end quote=======================

    I lack the fundamental activism to create such news items. However, I wish I had the time to spend to do such interesting social things. Being of a conservative ilk, I am suspicious of articles like this; however, I will try to go to the library to see what it is about before I pass judgement. Having passed considerable time without corporate level work, for which I was trained, I am even more suspicious of “social entrepreneurs” type philosophy – especially since, all those technical jobs are going bye bye.

    I began working life as an electronic engineer and kept pace for two decades while maintaining a reasonable level of creativity. The sector I was in said you were dead after the age of 40 so I went to other endevours of a technical nature. Being of a conservative ilk and not having a lot of land to retire upon – I actually had this at one time long ago – I guess I am screwed!

    We are an ever expanding, cutting edge technical & service based country – it must be so since we export tonnes of LABOR jobs. If you are technically dead after 40 what is going to keep us working in a technical based society? A damn good engineer & technical based person should expect to be a Wal-Mart employee or something of that ilk.

    Ok, I did not stay focused on this one but I feel a lot better! Or should I say there are points of discontinuity but the idea I meant, but did not portray correctly, should prevail. Anyway you should know what I mean. Did I use ilk enough in this message?

  • A very fine day indeed

    Posted on February 16th, 2004 admin No comments

    Today started as a cloudy one but developed into a cool, partly cloudy day. With SAM as a companion, we drove to Bradenton and then on to Sarasota. We took the Ringling Causeway to Long Boat Key and back up to Bradenton via Manatee Avenue. It was a good day filled with only a moments frustration at the traffic in Sarasota and LBK and a bigger one with the service station charging $1.72 per gallon ( prevailing price is $1.58).

    On the way back to St. Petersburg we stopped at the fishing piers of the “Skyway” where we saw a sign that said no fishing license was necessary to fish off the pier. OK, maybe next week or the week after that.

    The day ended with a real home made meal – it takes two to do it right. BFN….Charlie

  • This is Monday, err it is Tuesday

    Posted on February 10th, 2004 admin No comments

    It was a very good day. The sun was shining here in Bradenton, temperatures were tropical and we go a lot done with some real good crews. The tower is up and most of the side arms are installed as are the antennas. Lunch was a casual pick up affair at Wendy’s and then a little sea side park to eat it. The area was crowded today as it was warm and sunny. Mostly it is secluded and private so you can enjoy lunch in peace.

    I want to have the time to post the activity here but so far I have not had the time. The big boss in Indiana keeps pouring the requests on and it is taking up the free time.

    Suffice it to say that I am happy with the progress and expect the project to end in 4 weeks or so. I am going to fly someone in to make the drive back to Indiana with me as it is getting to be a little boring and is a long trip. I would like to go out of my way to Tallahassee and then up 231 to I-65 and all the rest of the way on it. It would be cool to RON in Nashville one night but that would be 3 days back so we will see. I need to stop at Williams to drop some items off so Tallahassee is a must.

  • Discovery’s 100 Best for 2003

    Posted on February 8th, 2004 admin No comments

    Here is the list of Discovery’s 100 best for 2003. Some are pretty good and it is worthwhile to review the list. It got cold here last night – it is 46 right now; however it was much colder in the operations center in NE IN , like -2 degrees. Now that is cold.

    The sun is now shining brightly and I have to do expense reports and weekly billing so maybe I can write more later in the day.

    Ok guys, so much has happened since I have had the energy to compose another masterpiece but here goes another.

    I have been on the sci-fi kick again. Isaac Asimov the ” robot series” was purchased from my local book palace. the real name of the place is Paperback Palace – near 38th Ave & 49th St in St Pete – and they have a lot of books for sale. Not too cheap mind you, but they have complete sets and this I like.

    soorry forr nnnot writing lately but it has been hell on wheels & “ON THE AIR” lately – or should I say lack of “air”. Sorry, but it is an inside joke.

    Damn, I worked today and so did a lot of others and they worked much more than me – boy, am I proud of the “steel” they stack!
