  • New GX110 from eBay

Posted on June 30th, 2005 admin No comments

I bought a computer via eBay last week. I am installing stuff on it now – like W2K and other apps. It is an old 600MHz machine with 256M of ram and 10 gig drive. I probably decommission an older Optiplex and use the HD from it for more storage. I have a CDRW and an external DVD/CDRW that I could put on it too. Jess’s machine from Purdue looks like it gave up the ghost and is blue screening due to memory changes so I guess it is done for.

I bought it three years ago for $89 and threw 384M of ram in it along with the 120G HD and CDRW. I’ll transplant it into the GX110. I like the old GX1′s better but what the hay time marches on and things get cheaper & (better??).

  • Pluck

I have just installed Pluck for the third time on various machines of mine. Pluck is a news aggregator, like in RSS, and it integrates with IE 6 pretty good. I got the idea from my son who is using it now. You can get it at Pluck’s website. Try it and I think you will like the feeds it brings effortlessly.

  • A Dreary Saturday

Posted on June 18th, 2005 admin No comments

Today was overcast and somewhat depressing. However, I need the rest as I was working much extended hours in Detroit doing a myiad of site surveys (at least 30 with multiple trips to each site). The truck got stuck in an area I had just traversed but we were lucky to get it out for a $100.

By truck, I mean the bucket truck we had rented from an old reliable source. What you do is get into the bucket and go up high – say 60′ – and look around like you were a camera. If you can see far each way then it is a good spot. If a tree or building is in the way you have to pick another spot and we picked a lot of spots.

Today, I went flying with Bill E. in a Cessna 150 to test a new prop we had just put on it. At cruise RPM it was OK but bounced at low RPM’s so we will have to end for end the prop to see if it balances out. This will be left for another day. It was fun to fly as PIC again. BTW – I am looking for a Kitfox IV with 100 HP engine if you know of one.

  • Novi, MI

I am in Novi tonight and for the rest of the week. Maybe I’ll be here Sunday and Monday nights too. I have to do a tonne of site survey’s WThF with the customer to determine the correct placement of some ITS devices. This blog becomes something of a diary and is probably boring to most people. Another of my blogs can be found at http://www.moorewireless.com and it contains more technical and business related writings.

I just went to the http://www.mooredynasty.net site to read up on what is happening in Texas today. The Grandson’s are writing a blog every day and some are highly interesting. Unfortunately, access is a permissioned based thing and family only. The grandchildren are pretty good writers and show fertile imaginations. We are proud of their accomplishments!

  • Will the boat really float?

Posted on June 3rd, 2005 admin No comments

The saga continues regarding the Ski Nautique. The past 4 years have been fraught with episodes sufficient to fill a novel. For some reason the best technicians in this county cannot seems to find a leak in the boat. Last year we seemed to be having no problem so I expected to launch last week and even rented the slip for the summer on Lake James. Well, after an hour or two on the lake we docked and covered the boat but we saw the bilge pump come on and were intrigued so we watched for more pump activations. It seemed like every 5 minutes the pump came on and we de-covered the boat and listened – what we heard was no encouraging since water was again pouring in someware.

Out comes the boat and now it is back at the dealer. They said they had it fixed but after 4 similar events I am skeptacle. I’ll let you know what happens on Sunday as I expect to launch again tomorrow.
