  • It is SOLD!

Posted on September 12th, 2005 admin No comments

The place here in Grand Rapids appears to be sold. No one has told me yet but I signed the offer and am told they got the financing. Now I have to get rid of the furniture since I do not want to carry it back to Indiana.

To answer the question – ARE YOU STILL WORKING? The answer is yes. I did not like the remote ownership the home in GR presented. Too much worry and it ties you down. So only the Indiana place will remain and I will have to do the hotel thing until I can find the boat I want to live on for the remainder of my working and retirement life.

There exists a Cape Dory 36 that is very tempting. Check it out. This sailing vessel is located near Grand Haven area and is really well maintained and pretty good looking with all the comforts of home – like airconditioning and heat via a reversing type heat pump. All of this works when tied to the dock but not on the open water unless the generator is running. I could live on this for 6 months of the year.

  • What a late summer!

This summer is about as perfect of a summer as you can get here in Indiana. Rains have been about normal and days have been perfect. SAM and I went swimming on Sunday after the Kayak around the lake looking for anything that swims (and some that did not). Wow, how many years has it been since swimming after Labor Day.

As for the non-swimmers we found on the trip they were clams. In the bottom marl you could see the tracks as the moved. One moved about one meter. We will need to check the progress and to check the survivability next spring. There were about 6 in one small area.

As for the Kayaks, well, they are a new diversion started this summer. We have traveled the backwaters of our wattery part of Indiana. Using a program called USAPhotoMaps we map our route using the Microsoft Terra Server photographs. USAPhotomaps adds a twist – you can get free topo maps too. Isn’t the Internet wonderful.

BTW – check out the history of J Cox and send him some money if you like the free program. It might keep him incented to develop grander things.
