It originally covered 13,000 acres (53&nbsp;km\u00b2) of present-day <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Adams_County,_Indiana\">Adams<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jay_County,_Indiana\">Jay<\/a> counties. Parts of it were known as the <strong>Loblolly Marsh,<\/strong> based on a word by local Native Americans for the sulphur smell of the marsh gas.
