{"id":4384,"date":"2022-11-20T13:52:22","date_gmt":"2022-11-20T18:52:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.charleswmoore.org\/wordpress\/?p=4384"},"modified":"2022-11-20T13:52:22","modified_gmt":"2022-11-20T18:52:22","slug":"four-insatiable-desires","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.charleswmoore.org\/wordpress\/index.php\/2022\/11\/20\/four-insatiable-desires\/","title":{"rendered":"Four insatiable desires"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Man differs from other animals in one very important respect, and that is that he has some desires which are, so to speak, infinite, which can never be fully gratified: Four infinite desires \u2014 <em>acquisitiveness<\/em>, <em>rivalry<\/em>, <em>vanity<\/em>, and <em>love of power.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>However much you may acquire, you will always wish to acquire more; satiety is a dream which will always elude you.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The world would be a happier place than it is if acquisitiveness were always stronger than rivalry. But in fact, a great many men will cheerfully face impoverishment if they can thereby secure complete ruin for their rivals.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Vanity is a motive of immense potency. Anyone who has much to do with children knows how they are constantly performing some antic, and saying \u201cLook at me.\u201d \u201cLook at me\u201d is one of the most fundamental desires of the human heart.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Love of power is greatly increased by the experience of power, and this applies to petty power as well as to that of potentates.
