Healthcare I just viewed
Posted on October 13th, 2009 No commentsI just viewed this health care video and thought it mildly interesting for a person my age. Of course there will be more as time goes on.

Indiana
Posted on October 12th, 2009 No commentsWe are back in Indiana due to the in-climate weather up North. It was cold, overcast and threatening rain so we decided to pack up and head down here for a few days. Jerry & Caroline were going to come up but he was getting over a cold and the weather was not conducive to much fun so they canceled and then so did we. The haul out date is 24 October so our time on the boat this year is nearly up.
Back at the house, I have so much space that I do not know what to do with it. Seems sort of a waste to have all this space just for two people. Who knows? Maybe it is the way it should be.
I found a travel trailer up near Lansing that I would like to go and see but SAM seems luke warm so I guess it is a no go. After a summer on the boat it seems like small space are not too intriguing. I will continue my quest however.
Tonight I did an automatic upgrade to wordpress 2.8.x and it wnt very well. Yea!

BOAC
Posted on October 6th, 2009 No commentsI went to the Board of Aviation meeting tonight. It was an interesting meeting. A couple of County Council members were there tonigh and that is good. The RFP packages were opened tonight – there were only 2 bidders and both were local. Interestingly, the Fort Wayne airport group sent a letter wishing to tie themselves with us in an unspecified manner. Also discussed were several different claims and various expansion options.
Earlier in the afternoon TSA got together at Mike’s business to discuss hangar related issues. According to Fulfab, any cable that exhibits an imperfection should be replaced. We discussed several ways to assess a maintenance fee to cover cable replacement. We also discussed snow removal from about 6′ out to the hangar doors: we have 4 volunteers – Mike, Chuck, Walt and Jack. It could be a long winter!
The weather remains cold and rainy. Prospects for another sail this year are dim. If we had been smart we would have pulled the sails before we left the marina last week. Oh well, I guess we are not too smart.

Boat update
Posted on October 4th, 2009 No commentsWe did not go back to the boat this afternoon like planned. The weather plus some social commitments have prevailed and we remain here until further notice.
I took the Lexmark Laser Printer to church to be put in the “garage sale” this Wednesday. It works but needs to be cleaned due to the fact that the toner cartridge leaked. It is a good unit with duplexer and extra 500 sheet paper tray. All for a good cause.
Tuesday evening is the Aviation Board meeting and the bid selection should be made (I think). Also, announcements as to what new improvements are planned and the timing associated with those improvements. We have worked for this moment for several years and it will be interesting.

This is the Friday that Was
Posted on October 2nd, 2009 No commentsIndiana ranks 14th among states in wind-energy output, the American Wind Energy Association reports. Its first full-scale wind development, a 130-megawatt facility in Benton County, came online last year. Several other northern Indiana wind farms that generate a total of 400 megawatts were finished earlier this year.
I spent the morning working on the ITS Michigan website and the Pickens Plan. As District Leader I should be expected to contribute something.
This afternoon I changed the oil in the truck, got gasoline and started the vacuum to prepare for the leaf season. It was a full afternoon. I also watched a little hulu.com video.
This evening it is a let down as there is not one cable channel that has anything worth while watching. Therefore, I am back on the net. I finished my book last night late and do not have one to replace it as I left everything on the boat. I cannot wait to get back there and dread the end of the season when I will be banished to the house again.

A very Scary Prospect
Posted on September 30th, 2009 No commentsPlease read the article in the hyperlink http://gizmodo.com/5371017/google-earth-will-track-cars-and-people-in-real-time?autoplay=true.
The prospect of this occurring really scares me to death. We are already on a slippery slope where protective legislation simply cannot keep up with technology. It looks like privacy has ended. Let’s just hope we really do not get the Antichrist in any influential position (which he will be as we know).

McChrystal Slams DoD Bureaucracy
Posted on September 28th, 2009 No commentsThe commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan bitterly complained in an interview Sunday about the Pentagon bureaucracy that he said was hampering his efforts to fight insurgents.
In a profile on CBS television’s “60 minutes,” Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal said he faced pressure to move quickly from Defense Secretary Robert Gates while the Pentagon had moved slowly to get officers assigned to his staff.
“The secretary talks in terms of 12 to 18 months to show a significant change and then we eat up two or three months just on sort of getting the tools out of the tool box,” McChrystal said, according to a transcript of the show to air later Sunday. Total Article

Update: Storm
Posted on September 28th, 2009 No commentsThe storm started last night about midnight with some lightning and a little rain. We hit the sack about then but did not sleep too well as the boat was really rock n rolling all night. This AM about 0700 hrs I turned on the wind speed indicator and the maximum recorded gusts have been 34 knots as of 0930. Rain is almost continous but not real heavy. Barometric pressure is 29.22″ and rising slowly. Some trees at the marina have lost some branches. We have buttoned up and turned on the heater as it is a chilly damp condition. More later. Reading “Angel Fire East” by Terry Brooks.

Storm Warnings: 3 days worth
Posted on September 27th, 2009 No commentsWe are definitely winding down the season here at Lake Michigan. Many boats already are out and many more have removed their sails.
Yesterday we got out the wire brush and brushed down the boat cradle and it is ready to receive two additional supports. After they weld these on I need to paint the cradle and apply the carpet on the jack stand pads. We may not get the whole thing painted but we will certainly get the carpet applied so it will not scratch the boat.
We are expecting wind speeds in excess of 50 knots tonight, tomorrow and Thursday as a storm goes through. I have re-secured all the lines and taken down the flags. The gale warning was upgraded to a storm warning this afternoon.
We stripped, sanded and varnished the outside of the companion way this afternoon instead of going sailing. This is probably good because as I write this the wind speeds are in excess of 20 some knots. I’ll write later to let you know how we made it through the form.
