  • Snow storm coming?

Posted on December 11th, 2010 cwmoore No comments

[singlepic id=160 w=320 h=240 float=left]I awoke early today.  Checked the email, weather,  FB and read latest items on Huffington Post.  It looks like a winter storm is on its way and proposes to drop 2 – 4″ by tomorrow morning.  I think I better move the 4×4 up the hill for the winter.  I like to drive it much better than the cars in snow and ice.  The price of gasoline was marginally down to $2.959 per gallon last night at Walmart.

Today is a re-populate the spare bedroom (the ex-computer room).  We moved Mom’s old hospital bed to the guest room by lugging the heavy thing up the stairs.  Now that SAM has completed painting the room and fully cleaning the carpet we are ready to move in the stuff.  I have to wait until the decision is made as to where to put the bed.  Then I can find a place for the modem and router.  The modem may have to go under the bed – it is a black box anyway even though it has led’s – because the coaxial cable is larger diameter and is not too flexible.  The rest of the network items will go wherever they fit after the bed is placed.

  • Chrome OS: Good & Bad

Posted on December 9th, 2010 cwmoore No comments

First full ice day today – December 9, 2010.

The Chrome OS underdevelopment will be a super-browser with a host of cloud applications.  There are some real advantages to this but you are tied to an internet connection.  I guess we are anyway so this is not a real disadvantage unless you need some ofline capability like using a USB GPS and a map ( think Streets & Trips or Delorme ).  Rather than me  describe this in words here is a good tree of data.

Here is a video that puts all into simple terms that are easily understood.

  • Lake Effect Snow

Posted on December 8th, 2010 cwmoore No comments

We continued to be plagued by lake effect snow.  Do not get me wrong – I like snow.  However, I like snow to be the snow we can play with; for example,  X-C skiing or even snow blowing the drives.  This stuff continues to come down a flakes [singlepic id=268 w=64 h=64 float=left]that accumulates about 1″ per day and half that sublimes during the days limited sunshine.  Still it could be worse, the internet could be off because around here that is the main source of entertainment.

I just completed a “favicon” for the church but then I remembered I did not have access to root and thus could not place the .ico file.  I’ll include it here just for fun so you can admire it.  Remember I have it copyrighted…..Moore later

  • Google Calendar

Posted on December 7th, 2010 cwmoore No comments

[singlepic id=267 w=120 h=120 float=right]I spent the morning attempting to find out what the issue was with Google Calendar that I have embedded into the aaogchurch.com website.  It was not rendering correctly in the Month view.  Finally, I found the issue was posted to the web developers part of the site.  However, this was not before I spent a lot of time trying different arrangements for the page – nothing worked.  I then go the inkling that it might be a Google anomoly and sure enough “Alice” had posted a note that they were working on it.  Ah well, what do you expect for free?  The cloud calendar is a pretty cool thing for people on the move but for a retired engineer who needs a calendar.  Probably I do but I just do not know it yet – now if I just had a 3G or 4G phone I know I would find it useful.

  • Community Holiday Concert

Posted on December 5th, 2010 cwmoore No comments

We went to the Community Holiday Concert at the old Tri-State University (Now Trine University).  It was in the student union building auditorium.  It was good.  The snow was falling heavily when we entered and pretty much finished when we left as it is lake effect.  The roads were a different matter-outside of Angola the Old 27 was glare ice and we were stopped by one accident.  The salt truck was spreading the corrosive mixture but they stopped by the old slaughter house at the bottom of the hill so we had a perilous journey home.

I woke up at 0330 this morning with a full fledged cold and not feeling well.  I took it easy today and missed church but not the concert – SAM wanted to go badly so I took her in.  After we got there she finagled me into going inside and the rest is history.  I did nod off a few times but the music was good.  We saw a few friends too and didn’t see any enemies so that was good.  Sounds like dinner is ready – got to go.

  • Five Mega-Trends

Posted on December 1st, 2010 cwmoore No comments

Internet Dumb:  “There’s an online sucker born every minute.”

America getting fatter:  “There’s no such thing as too thin… or even kinda thin.”

Trickle Down Theory:  “The rich get richer and the poor get bupkis.”

Global Warming:  “It never rains, but it floods.”

Religious Wars:  “Do unto others before they do unto you.”

How did I get these mega-trends you ask?  Well, I received via the internet and here is the link so you can read the article for yourself.  The article has truths but fails to provide $$$ making solutions – I guess that is left to the “student”.
