  • Wednesday 17 January: Sunny then Overcast

Posted on January 17th, 2018 cwmoore No comments

I was up at dawn 0530, a penalty for the late rise of yesterday. I used the time to advantage to plan an action packed day of two events. The first was organizing delivery of the two CRT TV’s from the RV to the dump.  This seems easy but it is not.  The county would not accept non-resident CRT TV’s.  I have been pondering what to do based on the website parameters.  In the end, a church friend helped me delivery them to the recycling center and we were told to dump them in this dumpster with cardboard and other construction detritus.  I’ll bet it went into the landfill and did not go through the remediation process for hazardous materials. Sad – I tried.

Later, we took an afternoon nap after washing a weeks worth of clothes.  By the time we awoke it was necessary to get ready for the meeting with some local RV people at the Elks.  We had invited them to Wednesday “burger night” and they had accepted our 1800 invitation.  They arrived almost spot on time and we enjoyed the evening and we almost the last out of the building – much to the relief of the staff.

Another wonderful day in a cool paradise: Temperature tonight 25°F, clear skies and 15G25 kts from NW. Tomorrow cool but sunny.

  • Tuesday: 16 January: A late rise

We got up later today as we were sleeping off the hectic weekend trying to keep up with a 30 – something daughter.  Later we went up to the church and talked with people and then went to Walmart.  We bought some groceries,  looked at TV’s and heaters.

Back at the RV, SAM made some lunch while I tried to figure out all my medicine shortcomings.  Later, I hope we had them sorted out but by then nerves were raw.  Still are I think but we will see.

As I look out on the fair grounds and the tall pine trees, the sun is going down over the tops of the westerly trees and I am reflecting about a lot of life.  It is well with my soul.

  • Monday 15 January: Jess to airport

This morning we got up early and prepared to leave for KJAX airport for her return trip to CT.  We had a great time this weekend in-spite of the cool, sunny weather.

After we dropped Jess off, we returned to the RV for lunch.  After lunch we decided to work on the removal of the old analog TV.  We have dreaded this task because it is next to impossible to get rid of them.  Anyway, we did take out the TV without too much trauma to the RV or to us.  We pu ti into the car for delivery somewhere soon.  Now to find a new modern digital TV. We are thinking of a 32″ or 28″ TV – whatever fits but 32″ would be best.

Today was St. Augustine with Sharon and Jessica. Windy, Sunny and cool. From there it i was down to the Treaty Tree in downtown JAX. On the way back home we stopped in Green Cove Springs to take pictures at the Red Door and then down at the “Springs”.. The sun was just going down when we arrived back at the RV.

Saturday we went to the downtown JAX Arts and Craft Market via Riverside to see the beautiful old stately homes. From there up to Fernandina Beach north of JAX. Great weekend with Jess. In between, we went to Sweet Pete’s and then SAM n Jess walked around and they took soame pictures.

It has rained most of the day and the cold front is passing through.  Rain was very hard at times.  We are getting ready for Jessica’s arrival and we both took showers and SAM swept the floor.  We have another arrival today with a Airstream type trailer.  They seem sort of nice and they will be here for a month.  He is a sailor and they sailed the west coast clear down to Cape Horn and rounded her in a 43 Westsail.  Can’t wait to hear his adventures.

Today we went to the First Assembly Seniors group meeting.  We had to calculate our body mass and I am borderline obese.  To even get to a reasonable level I would have to lose 38#.  I am 202 again up from 180 a couple of years ago when I could not eat right.  We had a vegetarian been soup and I pigged out on this by eating two bowls.  After that we pretty much holed up in the RV with all the intermittent rain but we made a quick trip to Walmart to buy a fan for the RV so we could circulate the bedroom air a bit.

The RV Park is getting busy and three new people have moved in this week.  Last night some guy in a 5th wheel pulled in at 1200 midnight and woke us up.  It took a while to go back to sleep.

Here it is.  Another session of intrigue and drama within the family and one or more outside the family.  That is all for tonight.

  • Tuesday 9 January: Overcast, rainy and warmer

A slow day and we finished the last book on CD by Rosenberg and went tho the library and got two more.  While at the library we bumped in to a old marina friend, Richard, and we had a nice chat.  Another highlight was that we used the air conditioner to keep the inside temperature at 75°.  This was good because there was the possibility that the heat pump might have an issue based on the performance on the heating mode a couple of weeks ago.

Slowly the RV is becoming like home.  However, I must admit I am not one of those who is a daily mover and I like to stay awhile and see the sights.  We are watching the forward tv now and the showers are on the way with an outside temperature 68° and SE light winds.  Yea, I will take the warmth.  I hear we can expect next week overnight temperatures in the low 30’s.

  • Monday 8 January: Chores

This is a work day.  SAM has her’s and I have mine.  First we worked as a team while I removed the 4 final screws holding the fascia of the forward TV.  The TV is a big monster of yesteryear which we want to replace with a UHD flatscreen.  We have wanted to remove this for a week or more but we finally set a date and moved forward.

After SAM departed to do the laundry, I started finding places for the big items we had just removed.  This necessitated moving, cramming and finessing those items.  In the end, things looked nicer fit in the compartments better and generally was much more tidy.  I had a few minutes, I thought, before SAM returned so I decided to try out the front TV antenna with the 32″ flatscreen I brought along.  Long story short, it worked fine and showed 57 digital stations found. I place the monster 32″ up on the dash temporarily and we watched TV from the salon of the RV last night.

We finished the Book “The Third Wave” and now we are listening to Joel Rosenberg’s “The First Hostage”. I like his books and think I have listened to most and read a few. They are due back on the 16th so tomorrow it is listening time again.  No TV!

  • Sunday 7 January 2018

This being a Sunday we left for First Assembly about 1005 hrs in cool but brilliant sunshine. My oh my, how the sunshine lifts the spirits.  Today was Baptism Sunday and it was also the new member introduction to the congregation.  The were quite a few of them.  Everyone was in a friendly spirit today and we spent a long time talking with new and old alike.

Afterwards, we went to Publix and SAM went in to buy some more staples while I remained in the car to fiddle with the smartphone and items to be updated.  We enjoyed the ride home in the sunshine.  Lunch was fixed and eaten then I took a nap with Abby in the favorite chair then piddled with a picture of our RV in the Clay Fair RV Park.

Now, as I play and the sun has gone down behind the tall pine trees the radiating heat has disappeared, it is starting to feel like it is getting cold.  However, the temperature is the same inside so I guess the cold is imagined.  All the scheduled events on the RV did not take place but I guess there is always tomorrow or the next day or the next.
